Grazing

When it comes to diet, there are new fads all the time, and new fads mean new words. But, one of the latest new words is literally "as old as the hills." It's "grazing."

For those of you who think grazing requires four stomachs, count again. Diet experts are now telling us to chew our cud early and often by snacking on fresh fruits, raw vegetables, beans of all sorts, and whole grains, even if it means a trip to the fridge or cupboard several times a day.

The key is this. These foods are actually appetite suppressors that keep us from overeating on high sugar and fatty foods. Where a snack on simple carbohydrates actually stimulates hunger, grazing on the foods mentioned above has the opposite effect while providing necessary vitamins and minerals.

Summer is a great season for grazing, especially up North. Our grassy foods are cheaper and more plentiful now than in any other season. Even a one month test this summer may be all it takes to convince you and yours that snacking often on the right foods may be your next key to a healthier lifest
Chew on that awhile.
