Staying in Shape

Here is a lesson on why we stay in shape:

Just after my sophomore track season at LaMoure College, I attended a church convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I had a great time of learning and fellowship and was feeling pretty good at week's end when I entered the hotel lobby to pay my bill.

While standing in line, a middle-aged woman, probably late 40's, approached me with a sad look on her face and said, "Young man, I'm sorry to bother you, but you can't believe how much you look like my son."

"Really," I replied, " how old is your son?"

"My son is dead....he died in the war."

I told her I was sorry and looked away, but then she asked me a strange question.

"Would you mind, just once, if I called you son. I really miss that."

I didn't much and told her again I was sorry. Then, as I neared the desk to pay, a strange thing happened. She started to shuffle out the door, and before she left, she turned toward me and said loud enough for all to hear, "Bye son."

That made me feel terribly guilty, so I smiled and innocently said, "Bye Mom."

Seconds later I turned to pay my bill and the clerk asked for over $500, which was way more than I expected to pay. I said I didn't understand how it could be so much. He replied, "Your mother said you would take care of her bill as well."

I said, "Just a second," and I dashed out the front door of the hotel just in time to see this con artist getting into a car. She hadn't counted on hoodwinking a sprinter, and I was at that car in a flash. She tried to swing into the seat and I grabbed her leg and pulled.................

.........just like I'm pullin' yours.
