Just
Do It
|
In a month of indulgences, indulge a Packer fan of
35+ years a few paragraphs in cyberspace talking about one of his
favorites, Reggie White. I'm not just a fan of Reggie White because
he is powerful, strong, successful, honest and a very vocal Christian.
I appreciate those things about him, but what I most appreciate
about Reggie is his ability to be a DO'er, one who uses his extraordinary
talent at near full potential.
Potential is a hard word to grasp. In a positive sense it means we could "really
be something." On the other hand, a coaching colleague says it means, "ain't
done nothin' yet." We all can talk about what we'll do, we can dream about
what we'll do, we can have others pat us and push us and prod us. But until
we risk DOing, we are nothing-- "we ain't done nothin' yet."
Our church members have recently been challenged to exercise the option
of prayer, an area of potential in all of us and an area of weakness in
most of us, myself included. I know my need to increase my specific, pointed
moments in prayer; I kno do it; I know it would help the corporate church,
my family, and several needy individuals. I know--I know--I know. But will
I DO it?
Enter Reggie White into my conscious thought. He sought the Lord for guidance
and ended up in Green Bay, the most unlikely place of all he considered.
He said he would witness and work for the Lord wherever he landed. He does
so continuously. He said he believed this was the way to the Super Bowl
and winning his first championship of any kind, and it came to pass. (I'm
smiling.) He said he would call upon the name of Jesus and proclaim his
name always, and in spite of church burnings, the crush of attention from
media and fans, and the spoiling nature of big money, Reggie, by the grace
of God, has done exactly what he said he would do.
I'm not Reggie White, don't want to be. But I can be a DO'er who seeks
my greater potential in the arena I'm in. I can do what I said I could
do. An important DO'er once said, "Be a do'er, not a hearer only." It's
time to step up and get the job done.
