Pumpkin Party -- B.Y.O.P.

This idea was inspired by a segment on a late October Saturday morning Today Show. The guest of this particular segment was the creator of a company that specialized in making special paper designs of different faces, logos, etc. Each design can be taped on a pumpkin and unique carvings can then be produced.

The pumpkin carvings were well done, but something I've seen many times before. The idea of having a gathering with pumpkin carving as the central theme, though, caught my attention. It's appeal is that such an event is very easy to organize and is appropriate for virtually any age group. For me, an all-church intergenerational event would be the way to go!

Following are some tips/ideas shared by the Today Show guest:

Send out invites that requests each party to bring their own pumpkin (B.Y.O.P.) and the necessary carving tools.

Have a buffet style eating arrangement ready because the pumpkin carvers will be finishing their creations at different time intervals.

Decide to have a few simple prizes for different categories (strangest carving, most unique carving, etc.)

Designate a special place to be the display area where finished pumpkins can be shown to all party guests.

When all pumpkin carvings are finished, make sure to light candles in each, turn out the lights, and check them all out!

Make sure to have a camera and/or video camera at the ready to capture the event!

Party Hardy!!
